This medium-sized furoshiki represents “Red Fuji” ( aka fuji in Japanese) also called “Fuji on a Clear Day” , famous Japanese print made by the painter Katsushika Hokusai in 1830/1831. This print is part of a series titled “ The Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji » ( fugaku sanju rokkei in Japanese) of 46 prints representing, among other things, different views of Mount Fuji, produced between 1830 and 1833. Made in Japan, it comes from the “Ukiyo-e” collection inspired by 19th century Japanese works with varied subjects: landscapes, scenes of daily life, characters...
Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese technique for wrapping gifts and everyday objects using a square of fabric. In this size, it can be used as a napkin, a small tablecloth, as a book wrapper or your lunch basket!
