Small furoshiki, representing the “View of the Nihonbashi Bridge at Early Morning” , Japanese print created by the painter Utagawa Hiroshige in the 19th century.
This print is part of a series entitled “ Fifty-three stages of the Tōkaidō ” (Tōkaidō Gojūsan-tsugi no uchi): 53 prints made following Hiroshige's journey on the famous Tōkaidō road , linking Edo (present-day Tokyo) to Kyoto . Furoshiki from the “Ukiyo-e” collection by Musubi.
Furoshiki is a traditional Japanese technique for wrapping gifts and everyday objects using a square of fabric and specific knotting and folding . The term furoshiki designates both the square of fabric used and the technique itself.
In this size, it can be used as a napkin, a small tablecloth, as a book wrapper or for your lunch basket !
