What to do with origami folding? Possible uses!
On the occasion of the release of the second volume of my book “L'Origami comme par Magie” , I wanted to present to you the possible uses of origami , once made, and its many creative possibilities.
I thought of this blog post as a continuation of our article “Tips & Tricks for getting started with origami” so that you will find all the answers to your questions there. I invite you to leave us comments if you have any questions!
So, without further ado, here is how you can use origami :
- GARLANDED
This is one of the main variations that we make of origami because it allows us to quickly make a few folds into a decorative object in its own right, as is the case for our creative crane garland kits . I also designed our pockets of 7 squares of Japanese paper measuring 15cm by 15cm for this use, 7 origami being in my opinion the ideal quantity to make a garland.
- MOBILE MOUNTED
It is also possible to use your origami to make a mobile for a child's bedroom, for example. The light and airy appearance of certain folds is perfect for dressing up a mobile. If you would like to be accompanied step by step in creating a mobile, I invite you to discover our mobile crane garland kits . It is also possible to make it yourself using a wooden structure .
- MOUNTED ON A HOOP
I also really like creating origami on a hoop. I often use flowery folds for this purpose but the possibilities are numerous! We also offer DIY “Sakura Hanging” workshops to teach you how to make a wall wreath from cherry blossom origami .
- HANGING AND SCATTERED ON A WALL
Origami folds can also stand on their own, scattered in large numbers on a wall to delicately dress it and thus create a dreamlike universe. What works well for this specific use is the abundance of origami !
- HANGING FROM THE CEILING
Certain origami , with their very decorative appearance like the tassel, can be suspended from the ceiling on the occasion of a wedding, for example by playing on the size of the folds, the height at which they are suspended, etc.
- HANGING ON A CHRISTMAS TREE, DECORATIVE BRANCHES
Using a few squares of Japanese paper, it is easy to create small tree suspensions. I also wrote an article on this subject “Our DIY Hanging Christmas Decorations” if you want to learn how to make your own decorations.
- STICKED ON A CARD
Origami , if it is flat, can also be used to decorate a greeting card! An article full of advice on making greeting cards is available on our blog “DIY Greeting Cards” if the subject interests you!
- TO WRITE A LITTLE WORD
The folds of the tattoo pouch or the origami heart, for example, can be used to write sweet little words to your loved ones because they have a sufficient flat surface to leave a message.
- UNDER A FRAME / SHOWCASE / BELL
If you want to highlight an origami that you particularly liked, you can put it in a frame (or a window or a bell) and combine other folds to create a decor.
- TO CREATE A SCENE, TO PLAY
By combining different folds together, you can imagine small decorative scenes based on a theme: the ocean, flowers, autumn... Children will be able to have fun imagining stories around these worlds!
- SCATTERED ON A TABLE, AS A TABLE DECORATION
Origami can also be used to create a table decoration based on a colorful range or a theme: Christmas dinner, Valentine's Day table, Easter snack, summer aperitif, etc.
- FOR PRACTICAL USE
Some origami , in addition to their decorative aspect, can also have a practical use and can be used for example for table decoration: chopstick holders, gift boxes, etc.
- ROD MOUNTED
Some folded flowers can be mounted on stems and thus allow you to compose pretty bouquets of flowers that are colorful and durable over time!
- ON A GIFT PACKAGE
If you want to decorate a paper gift package or a furoshiki with a label or a decorative element, you can use origami which you will stick directly on your support or attach using a small clip. laundry.
- MOUNTED IN JEWELRY, BROOCH
Origami , depending on their size and shape, can also be mounted on a brooch or as jewelry (necklace pendant, bracelet tassel, earring element, etc.).

Merci Adeline !
